Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers Celebrated in Maryland
Presided over by Metr. Apostolos of New Jersey (GOARCH) at the invitation of Metr. Saba (Antiochian), Orthodox faithful in Maryland and Northern Virginia gathered to celebrate faith, tradition, and unity.
POTOMAC, MD — On the evening of March 1, 2026, Metr. Apostolos of New Jersey presided over the annual Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers of Maryland and Northern Virginia at Ss. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church, at the invitation of Metr. Saba of North America. Clergy from the region, along with Fr. Luke Toumi of Ss. Peter and Paul, welcomed His Eminence, and a pan-Orthodox choir chanted the services with reverence.
During the liti, clergy processed with icons around the church, culminating in Metr. Apostolos declaring, “This is the faith of the apostles. This is the faith of the fathers. This is the faith of the Orthodox. This is the faith on which the world is established.” The service highlighted the unity of Orthodox Christians and the continuity of apostolic tradition.
Guest speaker Fr. Patrick Viscuso addressed Canon Law in the Orthodox Church, emphasizing its relevance to daily spiritual life. Metr. Apostolos reflected on foundational Orthodox beliefs, including the Trinity, veneration of the Theotokos, and apostolic succession through the hierarchs to Christ and the Apostles.
