A new class at All Saints of North America Orthodox Church aims to fill the often-overlooked gap in spiritual formation after baptism and chrismation.

SUN CITY, AZ — A new educational initiative focused on post-baptism formation is launching at All Saints of North America Orthodox Church, following a record number of baptisms at the parish on Lazarus Saturday.

The parish announced the introduction of a Mystagogy Class, described as the first of its kind, aimed at continuing the spiritual development of newly illumined Orthodox Christians. The in-person class begins May 2, 2026, and is already overflowing, reflecting strong interest among participants.

Leaders said the program addresses a common gap after baptism, when structured guidance often diminishes. The course will focus on building a disciplined spiritual life, including regular liturgical participation, study, and the cultivation of interior watchfulness, along with an understanding of spiritual struggles and temptations.

"Mystagogy is a word which means ‘initiation into interpretation of the Mysteries.’ Following Baptism, Chrismation, and Communion, the newly Illumined begin the process of Mystagogy, and prepare for the work of the interior life," the parish website states. "Your Membership Coordinator has an additional checklist of formative activities for the coming year, so that you may continue your spiritual formation, and move to spiritual maturity."

An online version of the class is expected to launch in the coming weeks, broadening access. The initiative builds on the parish’s catechism program and emphasizes ongoing formation during the critical first year after reception into the Church.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Antiochian Education Ministry launched the Orthodox Learning Ladder.
