Which law turns an apparent evil… into good

The most unthankful job in this world is to make predictions. Why? Simply because nobody knows what and when may happen. In the 19th century, they did not know that someday the Internet would appear; in the 18th century they did not even fancy the television, while computers were not immediately appreciated in the 20th century. And notice that it is not so much about events as about things. Events cannot be foreseen at all. For example, in the early 70s forecasts were made that the price of oil in the next quarter of the century would not rise significantly. In fact, as fast as in 10 years it was almost five times higher. No one could predict 9/11 in the US, the war in Iraq, or the collapse of the USSR. All this happened for many of us completely unexpectedly and suddenly.

Along with this, a shrewd person can notice that behind all the events that fall on our head, there is an algorithm, a law, if you like, that turns an apparent evil ... for good. The rise in oil prices, for example, fostered the study of alternative energy sources; the collapse of the USSR led to the birth of a number of states, including our country; and even the terrorist attack in New York pushed man to think about the frailty of all material and made him think more about the spiritual.

The believer looks at these events in a completely different way. We are Christians; we do not merely guess about the existence of a certain law, we are firmly aware of this law. And everything that happens quite definitely happens not accidentally.

The world is full of divine energies! Believers call them the grace of God. Moreover, we know that everything that is going on is controlled by the invisible, but perceptible divine Providence. The word "providence" in this case has the same root with the word "thought" in Slavic languages .It means, the world is governed not chaotically, but thoughtfully – with the Thought of the One Who created this world. That is why for those who believe in God, nothing bad can happen. Simply because our God is Love, and our God is the Source of all good. So we do not predict or forecast (this is, as you remember, unthankful). We simply thank the Lord for everything that is happening and hope that in the end it will be surely better than at the beginning. It simply cannot be otherwise. After all, God is Love which knows no boundaries. His Love for each of us is infinite.

The Fathers reject both license and cruelty. They offer no stigma, only the call to crucify the flesh with its passions (Gal. 5:24) and rise in Christ.

Conservatism or Orthodoxy?

Life is very short. I’d rather spend it reading St. Paisios the Athonite than David Brooks. That has nothing to do with Mr. Brooks and everything to do with St. Paisios.

Put Down Your Smartphone and Grab Your Prayer Rope

St. Paisios calls us to become “spiritual signalmen,” reminding us of the victory that has already been accomplished. He says that joy in the Risen Christ must be stronger than any fear for tomorrow.

In Defense of Fr. Michael Crowley

In a pointed irony, Pokrov Truth tried to discredit Archpriest Michael Crowley’s ability to protect his flock from predators. Yet their own correction admits Fr. Michael knew of a convicted sex offender in his parish, enforced strict monitoring and supervision, informed parishioners, consulted the community, and ensured ongoing oversight. The very update disproves Pokrov 's fears while proving Fr. Michael's competence in managing such risks effectively and transparently.

The Man from Montenegro: A Response to Abp. Elia of Finland

We respect His Eminence’s right to defend himself vigorously. However, the UOJ claims the same right for ourselves. And so we must say once again: Our coverage was accurate and our analysis was perfectly fair, given the information available at the time. To label our work “misinformation” is not merely wrong but slanderous.

The Myth of ‘Judeo-Christian’ Civilization

American Evangelicals tend to idolize Rabbinic Judaism and the Zionist State. They should remember: Jesus Christ is the God of Israel, and the Church is His Kingdom on Earth. There is no other God; there is no other Kingdom.
