Pro-Life Clinic Wins $5.4 Million After Legal Victory Over Colorado

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Colorado will pay $5.4 million in attorneys’ fees following a federal court ruling that struck down the state’s attempt to ban abortion-pill reversal. The ruling protects Bella Health and Wellness, a Denver-area Catholic pro-life clinic, which provides progesterone therapy to women who take the first abortion pill but later choose to continue their pregnancies. A parallel settlement of $700,000 covers attorneys’ fees for nurse practitioner Chelsea Mynyk, who intervened in the case.
The court found Colorado’s law violated the First Amendment, and a federal statute now requires the state to cover legal costs. “At least 18 moms who received abortion pill reversal care at Bella just celebrated Christmas with babies born during this case,” said Becket Fund attorney Rebekah Ricketts.
Founded by mother-and-daughter nurses Dede Chism and Abby Sinnett, Bella Health and Wellness provides life-affirming care consistent with its Catholic mission. Studies suggest progesterone therapy can help counteract the first abortion pill’s effects.
Judge Daniel Domenico permanently blocked the state law in August 2025, ensuring Bella and Ms. Mynyk may continue offering abortion-pill reversal care without interference from state authorities.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a federal appeals court approved Trump's defunding of Planned Parenthood.
