NEW YORK — The clergy and faithful of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City solemnly celebrated the Feast of the Nativity of Christ with festive services on January 6 and 7. The All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy were officiated by His Eminence Nicholas, Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York.
Serving with Metr. Nicholas were the cathedral clergy, including Dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan), Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky. The Synodal Choir, directed by Vadim S. Gan, led the liturgical singing.
The services took place before the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, revered as the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora. The cathedral was filled with worshippers who came to honor the Nativity of Christ, many of whom confessed and received Holy Communion.
Following the Liturgy, Metr. Nicholas’ Nativity epistle was read, and the hierarch encouraged the faithful to welcome Christ into their lives and support the cathedral’s ongoing renovation efforts. A festive Christmas reception concluded the celebration.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Nicholas celebrated the Entrance of the Theotokos at the ROCOR Synodal Cathedral.
