JERUSALEM — Late last year, the Very Rev. Archimandrite Ioan Meiu, Representative of the Romanian Patriarchate to the Holy Places and Superior of the Romanian Orthodox establishments in Jerusalem, Jericho, and the Jordan Valley, met with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.
On behalf of His Beatitude Patr. Daniel, Archimandrite Meiu presented Patr. Theophilos with a distinction commemorating the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate. The gift symbolizes a century of Romanian Orthodox history and spiritual leadership.
“Patriarch Theophilos III felt honored and expressed his gratitude to the Patriarch of Romania,” said Archimandrite Meiu. “He also congratulated him on the construction of the National Cathedral in Bucharest, a symbol of national unity and integrity.”
The Romanian Orthodox Church celebrated its centenary last year with several landmark events, including the consecration of the mosaic iconography of the National Cathedral and the proclamation of the canonization of sixteen venerable and confessor saints of the twentieth century.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Christian churches exchanged Christmas greetings at Jerusalem Patriarchate.
