Another Ukrainian Orthodox Church Destroyed Amid Fighting in Donetsk Region

KOSTIANTYNIVKA, UKRAINE — Photos showing the destruction of another Ukrainian Orthodox Church have emerged from the frontline city of Kostiantynivka in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, highlighting the growing toll of the conflict on religious and civilian sites.

Images published on January 9 by the Facebook page of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo depict extensive damage across the city, which is facing an advancing front and what local sources describe as a near-constant drone siege. Among the photographs are stark images of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church that has been almost entirely destroyed.

According to the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the shrine’s altar and main worship area have been reduced to rubble, rendering the building unusable.

Military personnel report that Kostiantynivka remains under relentless bombardment from Russian aerial bombs and artillery. With cemeteries inaccessible or unsafe, civilians killed in the shelling are reportedly being buried in the courtyards of residential buildings, underscoring the severity of the situation.

Previously, the UOJ reported that a priest and his wife were killed when their village was hit by Russian shelling.
