KERNERSVILLE, NC — The 2026 Pastoral Conference of the Diocese of the South, held February 4–6, introduced a groundbreaking initiative for clergy wives: the Matushki Meet-Up. This new track brought together twenty priest, deacon, and prospective seminarian wives for three days of fellowship, reflection, and mutual encouragement alongside the annual diocesan gathering for clergy.

Organized through the Orthodox Church in America’s Office of Pastoral Life, the Matushki Meet-Up served as a pilot program for future diocesan and Church-wide events. Participants engaged in informal connection, guided conversations, and joint sessions with the broader conference, particularly on the ongoing convert surge, while also enjoying clergy-wife–only gatherings. These sessions offered opportunities for open dialogue, laughter, and practical learning about parish challenges, spiritual practices, and resources for financial and hierarchical support.

Clergy wives described the experience as strengthening and affirming. Matushka Barbara Burch noted the joy of connecting with peers and sharing insights on welcoming converts, while Matushka Carrie Foley, Program Director of the Clergy Wives Ministry, emphasized the importance of fellowship for clergy wives. The success of the event highlights the Church’s growing commitment to the health, connection, and resilience of clergy families.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the OCA announced its 2026 clergy and clergy-wives retreats.
