RHODES, GREECE — Metr. Amphilochios, former Metropolitan of Ganos and Chora of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, reposed in the Lord on Saturday evening. The announcement was made by Archimandrite Nektarios Pokias, who shared the news in a public post that quickly spread sorrow among clergy and faithful.
“Our beloved Elder, Metropolitan Amphilochios, former of Ganos and Chora, departed for eternity a few moments ago. May his memory be eternal. May we have his blessing,” Fr. Nektarios wrote, adding that the hierarch is now reunited with his elder, St. Amphilochios Makris.
Born Adamantios Tsoukos in 1938 in Lardos, Rhodes, Metr. Amphilochios studied at the Patmias Ecclesiastical School and the Theological School of Halki. Ordained deacon in 1962 and priest in 1963, he served as a steward, parish priest, preacher, and long-time professor.
Known for his missionary zeal and pastoral care, he remained spiritually active in the Aegean islands, particularly Agathonisi, until his final years.
The funeral service will be celebrated in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Rhodes, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. local time.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Bishop Seraphim Sigrist reposed in the Lord.
