Romanian Orthodox Church Calls for Nationwide Prayers for Peace

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA — The Romanian Orthodox Church has announced that special prayers for peace will be offered in all its places of worship on Sunday, February 22, 2026, marking four years since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

According to the Patriarchate, clergy throughout Romania and in the diaspora will pray in parish churches, monastery chapels, hospital chapels, and social centers for an end to hostilities, the softening of hearts inclined toward war, and the healing and consolation of the wounded, refugees, and all those affected by the conflict.

The Prayer for Peace approved by the Holy Synod will be recited, with additional petitions for peace added to the Divine Liturgy. The faithful are also encouraged to read the full text of the peace prayers recommended by Patriarch Daniel since the beginning of the war. The Prayer for Peace reads, in part: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Teach us to seek to acquire peace of heart and peace among individuals and peoples." 

Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Daniel of Bulgaria prayed for peace in Ukraine on the anniversary of the Sofia Liberation.
