BUCHAREST — The Romanian Patriarchate has reaffirmed its pro-life stance, calling for respect for the fundamental right to life of unborn children while urging concrete support for women facing pregnancy crises. The Church emphasized the need to assist women confronting significant material, social, and emotional challenges.
Since 1958, over 23 million abortions have been recorded in Romania, contributing to a demographic crisis reflected in a negative natural increase and a population decline of roughly one million people per decade. The Patriarchate highlighted that, according to Orthodox Christian teaching, human life begins at conception, and the unborn child is a person with a living soul, citing Psalms 22:10 and Jeremiah 1:5 in support of this view.
The Romanian Patriarchate also promoted the 16th edition of the March for Life, held throughout March in more than 1,100 cities and towns, noting that it draws attention to both the right to life of unborn children and the demographic challenges facing Romanian society. The event encourages solidarity and practical support for mothers in pregnancy crisis situations.
In the Solemn Year of the Pastoral Care of the Christian Family, the Patriarchate urged all dioceses to provide material assistance, spiritual guidance, and parental support through parishes, monasteries, and social-philanthropic centers, ensuring the protection of the child’s life through communal solidarity.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patristic Nectar Family announced a new podcast for women.
