Fr. Stephanos Anagnostopoulos Reposes at 96

PATRAS, GREECE — Fr. Stephanos Anagnostopoulos, a widely respected contemporary neptic father of the Orthodox Church and author known throughout the English-speaking world, reposed in the Lord on Clean Tuesday at the age of 96, according to Romfea. His influential works, including Experiences During the Divine Liturgy and The Jesus Prayer: For Those Living in the World, introduced countless faithful to a deeper life of prayer.
Following his repose, his body was brought to the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Paralia Patron, where the Metropolitan of Patras celebrated a memorial service. His remains were then transferred to Athens, to the Church of St. Barbara in Amfiali, where he had ministered for many years. On February 25, Bp. Joseph of Proikonnisos celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.
The funeral was led by Metr. Seraphim of Piraeus, who delivered the eulogy. Fr. Stephanos was later buried at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Varnakova in Phokis.
Born in Drama in 1930, he served as priest, confessor, author, and spiritual father to thousands. May his memory be eternal.
