Romanian Orthodox Episcopate Marks 97 Years in America

DETROIT, MI — Orthodox faithful marked the 97th anniversary of the Orthodox Church in America's (OCA) Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, established during the General Church Congress held April 25–28, 1929, in Detroit, giving thanks for nearly a century of ministry and spiritual leadership.

For decades, the Episcopate has served as a religious home for Romanian Orthodox Christians across the United States and Canada, preserving the Orthodox faith, Romanian heritage, and liturgical traditions. Its mission continues through parishes, monastic communities, clergy, and faithful committed to sustaining church life across North America.

Today, the Episcopate functions under the archpastoral leadership of the Most Rev. Nathaniel (Popp), Archbishop of Detroit and the Romanian Episcopate, and the Right Rev. Andrei (Hoarste), Bishop of Cleveland.

Canonically under the OCA, the Episcopate is headquartered at Vatra Românească in Grass Lake Township, Michigan, and publishes "Solia - The Herald," a bilingual periodical issued since 1936. On this anniversary, the faithful of the Romanian Episcopate offer prayers in gratitude for past generations and for continued blessings on its work.
