LITTLE FALLS, NJ — Joy filled St. George Church on May 9, 2026, as His Eminence Metr. Saba elevated the parish pastor, Fr. Nicholas Belcher, to the dignity of archimandrite during a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy attended by Bp. John, area clergy, trustees of the Archdiocese, and a capacity congregation.

The elevation took place on the feast of the translation of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a date chosen to allow wider participation. In his homily, Bp. John explained the spiritual responsibility of the rank, saying it is given to those who “oversee, supervise, guide and protect the monastics, clergy and faithful entrusted to his care.” He also offered exhortations rooted in spiritual counsel, including the words, “Don't ever look back. Keep your eyes looking forward,” and “John, trust God,” urging fidelity to truth and freedom in Christ.

Following the Liturgy, Metr. Saba inducted 11 members into The Order of St. Ignatius of Antioch before a celebratory luncheon in honor of the new archimandrite. Family members and clergy offered tributes, including a moving address from Fr. Belcher’s son, Andrew, while Metr. Saba concluded with remarks praising pastoral care over administrative religiosity and presenting Fr. Nicholas with a pectoral Cross once belonging to Metr. Philip.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Saba concluded a Texas visit with ordinations in Houston.
