Patr. Bartholomew Reflects on Media and Truth at Greek Broadcaster

ATHENS — Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew said during a recent visit to the headquarters of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation that “good itself is the news,” challenging the common journalistic belief that positive developments are not inherently newsworthy.
The Ecumenical Patriarch visited the broadcaster as it marked the 60th anniversary of the first television broadcast in the Greek language. Reflecting on the role of media in society, he stated, “For us, however, the Good is the news, and the Good News stands at the center of the Christian’s life.” He emphasized the importance of truth, objectivity, and respect for citizens in journalism.
Patr. Bartholomew also praised media professionals for their dedication and public service, describing journalists and communications workers as carrying “the great responsibility” of informing society amid modern challenges. He referred to many in the profession as “unseen heroes” whose daily labor helps provide complete and meaningful public information and cultural enrichment.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Bartholomew was named an honorary professor in Zakynthos.
