Priest of Archdiocesan Cathedral Removed From Parish Duties Pending Investigation

NEW YORK — The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has launched a formal investigation into allegations involving inappropriate communications between a priest serving at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and an adult, according to a letter sent Friday to the cathedral’s Board of Trustees. This was first reported by the National Herald.

The investigation concerns Fr. Chrysostomos Gilbert and is being conducted under the Archdiocese’s Clergy Misconduct Policy. In the letter, National Chancellor Bp. Nektarios of Diokleia stated that the priest is cooperating fully with the investigation and has been placed on leave from parish duties while the inquiry remains ongoing.

"The Archdiocese will work closely with the parish to ensure continuity of liturgical, sacramental, and pastoral care for this beloved community," the letter from Bp. Nektarios states.

His Grace emphasized that no conclusions have yet been reached regarding the allegations. The letter also encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the Office of the General Counsel (george@goarch.org) or submit reports anonymously through the Archdiocese’s EthicsPoint reporting system (https://goarch.ethicspoint.com). 

The V. Rev. Archimandrite Chrystomos Gilbert has served as dean of the Archdiocesan Cathedral since the fall of 2022. He previously served as proistamenos of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Manhattan.
