Metr. Nicholas Leads Historic Consecration in Virginia Parish

MT. CRAWFORD, VA — Holy Myrrhbearers Church marked a major milestone on May 25 with the consecration of its temple and the celebration of Divine Liturgy on a newly sanctified altar, led by Metr. Nicholas of Eastern America & New York. The event followed a weekend archpastoral visit during which the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad prayed with the parish at Vigil and Divine Liturgy ahead of the dedication.

The consecration service unfolded on a rainy morning that gradually turned to sunshine over Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Upon arrival, Metr. Nicholas was greeted with bread and salt before vesting and beginning the rite, joined by a large gathering of clergy from across the region. Inside the altar, prayers were offered as the new altar table was assembled, washed with water and wine, and vested in linen symbolizing Christ’s burial shroud, before being encased in a carved façade and blessed with antimensia.

A solemn procession followed, carrying relics of saints including the Holy Apostle Andrew, Patr. Tikhon of Moscow, and the New-Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth, which were placed within the altar. The church was filled to capacity for the subsequent Divine Liturgy, with nearly all in attendance receiving Holy Communion. Metr. Nicholas offered congratulations and presented a chalice set to the parish, while also honoring Matushka Alexandra Moses, co-founder of the community, with a diocesan gramota. The celebration concluded with a catered outdoor banquet for parishioners and visiting clergy.
