OLD MISSION PENINSULA, MI — Ascension Wine Co. has announced the release of its newest sacramental offering, Zapivka Wine. Ascension Wines was the last major project blessed by the ever-memorable Abp. Peter of Chicago and Mid-America (ROCOR).
The company states that its sacramental wines are produced for use in the Orthodox liturgy, emphasizing reverence and devotion in their preparation. From vineyards in Michigan, Ascension Wine Co. sources select grapes chosen for their purity and richness, which it says are intended to honor the sacred purpose of liturgical wine within the life of the Church.
The newly released Zapivka Wine is described as a light, fruit-forward wine with notes reminiscent of homemade “kompot.” Its profile is said to evoke imagery of rural landscapes lined with strawberry and raspberry blossoms and sunlit cherry orchards, culminating in a smooth, lingering finish. The wine is intended for use as an after-Communion beverage traditionally given to assist the faithful in consuming the Holy Eucharist, while also being suitable for feast days, parish fellowships, and gatherings.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Saba taught that the Eucharist reflects unity but does not create it.
