INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Several Republican-led states are promoting observances centered on faith, family, and civic values during June, offering alternatives to the month traditionally recognized by many organizations and governments as LGBT Pride Month.
In Indiana and Tennessee, state leaders have highlighted the role of the nuclear family. Indiana Gov. Mike Braun proclaimed June as “Nuclear Family Month,” describing families headed by a husband and wife raising children as a foundational institution in society. Tennessee lawmakers adopted a similar resolution earlier this year, emphasizing the importance of two-parent households and traditional family structures.
Meanwhile, Utah and Arkansas have designated June as “Fidelity Month.” The observance encourages commitment to faith, family, community, and country. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders endorsed the initiative, which grew out of a grassroots movement led by conservative scholar Robert P. George. Proponents say the effort seeks to strengthen civic and moral bonds, while opponents argue that the timing intentionally overlaps with Pride Month.
Democratic governors in several states have continued to issue proclamations recognizing June as Pride Month. The differing observances reflect ongoing debates over cultural values, family policy, and the role of government proclamations in public life.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Patr. Daniel of Romania highlighted the sacred role of family.
