Cyprus Church calls on all local churches to participate in Pan-Orthodox Council
Primate of the Church of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos opposed the idea of postponing the Pan-Orthodox Council, which has been prepared for more than half a century and is scheduled for the second half of June in Crete, reports Romfea.
"The decision to convene a Great Council was adopted at two assembles of the Primates of the Orthodox Churches, without encountering any objection. This ensures the unity and consensus between us on this and we believe that any other position or proposal, last minute, threatens this unity, and the responsibility will fall on anyone, even their unwittingly, contribute to the degradation," stresses the Primate.
Archbishop Chrysostomos believes that "If, by us all, good will and if guided by the Orthodox Spirit of our truth and tradition, all the potential problems that exist in the already agreed pre-conciliar texts can be resolved quickly so that the Holy Synod have the time required to deal with bilateral issues, which employ Sister Churches."
"Therefore, we invite all local Orthodox Churches to participate in the Holy and Great Synod work with a spirit of love, humility and unanimity so that our witness to the world will be productive and effective in Jesus Christ," resumes the Archbishop.
Recall that on June 9 the Serbian Patriarchate stated that they see it an obstacle to participate in the Pan-Orthodox Council and proposed to postpone the meeting. Previously, the Bulgarian and Antiochian Patriarchates had refused to take part in the Pan-Orthodox Council.
