A new conversation book by Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh will be published in September

In September “Nikea” Publishing House will produce a new book by Metropolitan Anthony Surozhsky “Beauty and ugliness. Conversations about art and reality.” It is reported by the Blagovest-Info.

This book is composed of conversations of one of the most outstanding spiritual fathers and preachers of the end of XX century – the beginning of XXI century Metropolitan Anthony (Blum) of Sourozh, in which he speaks of beauty, creativity, art, image and reality expression, difference between deformation and ugliness.

Conversations, held in 1982 by Metropolitan Anthony upon an invitation of the University of Kent County within the framework of annual readings, were dedicated to the memory of Christian poet Thomas Eliot.  Despite the topic being far from theology, the Metropolitan fills it with the deepest theological content.

The material of this book is unique: it has never been published in full scope in Russia, there is no such address to poetry, fine art, such abundance of quotes and examples in any of the numerous conversations of Vladyka Anthony.

After each lecture-chapter Metropolitan Anthony gives answers to the students’ questions, which, apart from the answers themselves, are interesting for the discourse tonality, as well as liveliness of his character and vigor of his speech.

It is to be reminded that Metropolitan Anthony (Anthony of Sourozh, born Andrey Borisovich Bloom; 19 June 1914 – 4 August 2003) – hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Sourozh. A philosopher and a preacher. An author of numerous books and articles in various languages about spiritual life and Orthodox spirituality.
