Kiev Council refused to return historic property to the UOC monastery

According to the source of UOJ, it was refused at the yesterday’s session of Kiev Council Regular Commission on Property Issues to transfer the building of the former monastery’s hospital to Holy Pokrovsky UOC into ownership.

Lawyer Maxim Lenko, who represents interests of the religious community of Holy Pokrovsky UOC nunnery, insisted in his speech on transfer of worship buildings to the community’s ownership as consistent with the law.

“It is a historically proven fact that the monastery bore the expenses for the construction and maintenance of the hospital. The building, designed in the same architectural style as other monastery’s constructions, hasn’t been changed or added for the last century but only repaired by the state. Besides, it is a worship building that includes a family chapel and is listed in the Corpus of historic and cultural landmarks of Ukraine in Kiev city namely within the Pokrovsky monastery complex, stated the lawyer.

Kiev Council gave its comments for the UOJ: “Owing to the fact there is a Blood Transfusion Center on the former monastery’s hospital’s premises, consideration of this issue was redirected to the Regular Commission on Healthcare and Social Protection, as well as the Commission on Culture, Tourism and Innovation Policy. The latter was not able to make any decision. The former one recognized the transfer fact inexpedient. The deputies, participating in the session of the Property Commission, adopted a decision not to transfer the building of the former monastery’s hospital into the ownership of the nunnery.
