Spiritual security issue in the information society to be discussed at Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

The Theological Canonical Commission under the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church initiates a round table on the topic "Spiritual security issues in the information society", which will be held with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on September 6, 2016, reports a UOJ correspondent.

The attendees will discuss practical and theological issues related to the protection of individual liberty in the information society.

The necessity for such a "round table" is caused by a large number of appeals from the Orthodox congregation to the Hierarchy on specific issues that require further interpretation of such basic concepts as "identity", "name", "will", and legally enforceable terms "individual", "physical person ","consent to the processing of personal data ","biometrics ","electronic identification ","verification" and so on.

The theological part of the roundtable will be arranged in the form of answers by hierarchs, pastors and theologians to questions of the faithful. Among the questions are, for example, the following: "How to keep your identity integral, not to deny Christ?", "How to protect yourself from hidden idolatry?", "How, having ears, to hear what the Spirit say to the Churches?", "How not to become an unwitting accomplice of lawlessness?"

The organizers hope that the discussion of bishops, clergy and professionals, together with the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will form in the light of the Gospel truth a balanced attitude to the risks for the salvation of the immortal soul, facing a modern Christian and give him/her confidence in the confession of Christ's truth.
