According to Kievite Ariadna Vasilyeva, who recorded the fact of vandalism, the Star of Hero and the cast inscription were wrenched off from the monument to Kovpak. The very grave is neglected. From Mishin’s grave sculpture funeral urns were knocked down. "PolitNavigator" reminds that from 1941 to 1943, during World War II, Kovpak’s partisan formation passed with fights more than 10 thousand kilometers in occupied Ukraine, having defeated German garrisons in 39 settlements.
The famous two-thousand Carpathian raid of 1943 is considered the "most impressive" partisan operation in World War II. Kovpak’s formation was to strike at the rear of the enemy communications and organize sabotage in the oilfields of Galicia. To resist the partisan formation, the Germans had to use large forces.
