Сhildren’s Protection Day is celebrated throughout the world
This holiday was established by the decision of the Congress of the International Democratic Federation of Women in November 1949, and has been celebrated since 1950, writes Foma.
For more than seven years, the medical center “Miloserdie” (Mercy) has been functioning in the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent (the Martha and Mary Convent) where children with musculoskeletal disorders undergo rehabilitation.
There are traditionally various events held on this day in many countries of the world dedicated to the protection of children, including anti-abortion activities. Charity events are often held to collect money for seriously ill children as well.
Since 2016, the Church has also celebrated the joint memory of the holy, right-believing spouses – Grand Duke Dimitry of Don and St. Eudoxia, in monasticism Euphrosyne, the Grand Duchess of Moscow.
The date is no coincidence. The Holy Synod decided to celebrate a new church feast on June 1 as the saints were the parents of twelve children, and their life, according to the chronicles, was an example of marital fidelity and harmony.
