In Lutsk UOC-KP “Metropolitan” continues to destroy Bernardine monastery

On June 26 on the territory of the monument of architecture of the XVIII century – Lutsk Bernardine Monastery – there were fixed again illegal repair works. One of the windows leading to the Theater Square was destroyed along with the wall and redesigned into the front door. Lutsk residents who were passing near the scene of the crime, twice called to the law-enforcers, but no one stopped the destructive actions. What is happening on this day is reported by the UOJ correspondent.

The first arrived squad fixed the initial stage of illegal works, when the window still retained its shape. Near the corner of the building – the monument of architecture of national importance – there was a car with a double-glazed window. At the sight of law enforcers, the workers stopped their actions and explained to them that they are executing the order of the "owner" of the building – Metropolitan of the UOC-KP Mikhail, already notorious for his specific rhetoric in sermons and the barbaric destruction of ancient monuments being at his disposal.

After the departure of the investigative-operational group, the workers waited a few minutes and again switched on the puncher. The stack of bricks knocked out from under the window aperture was loaded onto a wheelbarrow and taken somewhere to the territory of the cathedral, which is part of the architectural monument complex: now it is managed by the Kiev Patriarchate. The window frame was finally broken, an aluminum door profile was inserted in the opening, and a plastic door was fixed. The work was completed already in the presence of the patrol police that recorded a second violation – this time falling under the article on arbitrariness, directly concerning the executors of redevelopment.

The complex of Bernardine monastery and church in Lutsk is a monument in the ownership of the state, and it is known that Vladyka Mikhail has no permits from the Ministry of Culture for such actions.

The UOJ follows the developments.
