VR’s Committee is set to consider the bill against the UOC

The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Culture and Spirituality is going to consider bill No. 5309 “Оn introducing amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations.” It is reported on the site of the Committee on Culture and Spirituality.

Bill No. 5309 proposes to amend the Law "on the name of religious organizations (associations) that are part of a religious organization (association), whose governing center (management) is located outside Ukraine in a state that, according to the Law of Ukraine, is recognized as carrying out military aggression against Ukraine and/or temporarily occupied part of the territory of Ukraine".

Experts have already taken note of a clear-cut vector of this bill being against the canonical Church in Ukraine.

Draft law No. 5309 is aimed at depriving the UOC of its official name.
