Metropolitan Anthony: Nothing should wake the beast in us!
Metropolitan Anthony addressed the Ukrainians with a memorial speech
Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Borispol and Brovary, the UOC Chancellor, told about for-the-sake-of-appearance devotees and what should be done to stay a human being. This is reported by the Pravlife portal.
The Metropolitan notes that a lot of aggression has been recently outpoured in Ukraine and attacks on the Church have been stirred up in the splintered society. Some joined the persecutors, while others joined the persecuted. Those who consider themselves persecuted and offended give vent to aggression and negativity justifying that by the desire to fulfill their sacred duty.
Metropolitan Anthony stresses that such mentality is self-deception and illusion because people take advantage of the current situation resorting to unpunished insult, humiliation and revenge.
Under the guise of "righteous wrath" lurks a banal desire to exalt over others, pride and vanity, positioned as a plausible excuse.
The Metropolitan stressed that a Christian should behave differently, since nothing can justify hatred and anger in our hearts.
“Nothing should wake the beast in us,” says Metropolitan Anthony.
But the man himself must behave so as not to wake the beast in others. The Metropolitan noted that after the loss of human appearance it will be difficult to become a man. Therefore, it is important to remember that our actions should be beneficial to our soul and lead to salvation. It is important to abandon slogans and start working on yourself.
Metropolitan Anthony urged to stop calling on others to do something and start doing it yourself. Peace in Ukraine will come after finding peace in one’s own souls when relations with our near ones get better. The order will set on when everyone brings it in their life, in their own housing, clears the rubble of their souls. The Metropolitan recalled that instead of making claims to the world, the Church and other people, one had better ask themselves: did I do my best? Only after this can one offer the society their own solutions to the problems and urge everybody to adopt them.
