On August 8, 2019, in Istanbul, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky met with Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, reports “TSN”.

Zelensky handed the patriarch a bouquet of flowers and they took several joint photographs for the protocol. According to the agency, the meeting of the parties was held in a closed format.

“The Ecumenical Patriarchate was preparing a statement, but it is not known whether it will be read out. According to the Director of the Press and Communication Office of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Nikos Papachristou, you need to wait in order to understand what is happening,” “TSN” said in a statement.

“Ukrinform” reported that after the meeting, a dinner was given in honor of the visit of the President of Ukraine on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarch. It is also assumed that Vladimir Zelensky would visit St. George’s Cathedral, located on the territory of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
