The Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church responded to criticism of his decisions by former Greek Minister Panos Kammenos, saying that the Synod recognized the autocephaly of the OCU effortlessly and without haste, based on canonical and ecclesiastical Tradition, and the decision has nothing to do with nationalist movements or other interventions in the Church affairs, reports Romfea.
The Synod emphasized: "Our Holy Church fully and substantially respects the freedom and responsibility of each individual, the human rights of the citizens of each country, and the religious ‘belief’ of the faithful of all the Christian Churches, and always wishes ‘for the peace in the world’."
"Any other views, wording, and references to this subject are untimely, inaccurate, and derive entirely ‘from the sly’," the Synod said in an appeal.
As reported earlier, the US Ambassador to Greece thanked the hierarchy of the Church of Greece for supporting religious freedom and tolerance.
