On January 31, 2020, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said during a meeting with the head of the Orthodox Church Epiphany Dumenko that he was satisfied with the recognition of the OCU by the Alexandrian and the Greek Orthodox Churches, reports BBC News Ukraine.

In particular, the representative of the State Department said that he was “very pleased that the Greek and Alexandrian Churches recognized the Orthodox Church of Ukraine as autocephalous. Russia should never be an obstacle to protecting the fundamental rights of Ukrainians.”

In addition, the edition reports that it is so important for the United States to communicate with the head of the OCU so that, according to Epiphany Dumenko, "Russia's influence in Ukraine won’t be so strong".

Also, according to the BBC News Ukraine, Michael Pompeo emphasized the importance of the development of the OCU at a meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.

According to the Ukrainian media, during his official visit to Ukraine, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo is most likely to raise the topic of promoting the OCU.
