UOC explains why Lavra’s monks are taking their belongings out of monastery

The head of the Synodal Information and Educational Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluki (Vecheria) said what is happening now on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

In an interview with a UOJ correspondent, Metropolitan Clement reported that at the moment, the monks of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra are actually taking out part of their belongings from the monastery.

"We are now conducting some events in case the monks cannot be in the Lavra. Now they are taking out their personal belongings," said Vladyka.

At the same time, he emphasized that "when the monastery is in the Lavra again, they will return there."

Metropolitan Clement also noted that the searches that are now taking place at the exit from the monastery are illegal, "like everything that is happening to the Lavra".

As earlier reported, Metropolitan Clement assured the UOC will act within the law regarding the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
