The Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which took place on August 17, 2020, decided to appeal to the society regarding the international civil forum "People of Peace" to be held in Ukraine. This was announced by the UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary on the "112-Ukraine" TV channel.

“Supporting all the efforts and new agreements of the parties to the conflict on a comprehensive ceasefire, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church appeals to the citizens of Ukraine and the world, public, humanitarian Ukrainian and international organizations representing civil society, which are not political and state institutions, and initiates an international public forum "People of Peace" capable of becoming an effective dialogue platform that will generate ideas for the development and implementation of an action programme to end the conflict and restore peaceful life for people in the Donbass and eastern Ukraine. The conflict in the Donbass and eastern Ukraine is complex in nature and concerns not only the people who live there but also the citizens of all of Ukraine,” the hierarch said.

Metropolitan Anthony noted that this conflict is part of world processes and thus concerns the international community.

“That is why the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church invites to the discussion and participation in the forum both civilians living in the conflict zone in the Donbass and influential professional people living in different parts of Ukraine and countries of the world. These are the people who have received national recognition for their life and personal achievements, people who assert eternal universal human values regardless of nationality and confessional affiliation and are able to develop and implement an action programme to end the conflict and restore a peaceful life of people in the Donbass and eastern Ukraine,” he added.

As reported, the Svyatogorsk Lavra will host the forum “People of Peace” in autumn.
