On June 11, 2023, a memorial service for Mazepa will be held at the All Saints Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Ministry of Culture's Facebook page reported.
The message says that “on this day, for the first time in the history of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a memorial service will be served for its pious philanthropist and ktitor, Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who was anathematized by the Russian imperial church for his unwillingness to obey Muscovy during his lifetime.”
According to the Ministry of Culture, "this event will be the beginning of the revival in the Ukrainian Lavra of the tradition of honoring outstanding figures of national history and culture."
The message lists the persons who will take part in the memorial service: Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy; Chiara Deczi Bardeschi, Professor, Liason Officer of the UNESCO Office in Kyiv; Maxym Ostapenko, Acting General Director of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra"; Archimandrite Abraham, acting abbot of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra; clergy, scholars, honored guests.
All Saints Church is located on the territory of the Upper Lavra. It is an architectural monument of the 17th century. It was built in the Ukrainian baroque style in 1696–1698.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Drabynko served a "requiem liturgy" for Ivan Mazepa.
