On 28 July 2023 during the plenary meeting of the 25th extraordinary session of the Poltava Regional Council of the 8th convocation, deputies adopted an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada on the legislative restriction of the UOC activities, reports zmist.pl.ua.

55 deputies voted in favour of this appeal.

"The issue was brought up for discussion by the heads of the factions, and everyone who wished made their proposals to the text. In the appeal, the deputies of the Regional Council propose to the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a bill to restrict the activities in Ukraine of religious organisations with a centre in the aggressor state. It was registered in January this year, but the project is still under consideration," the statement said.

On 30 May 2023, the Poltava Regional Council "failed" the vote for the termination of lease agreements with the UOC, initiated by "European Solidarity" and "Dovira", then the appeal was supported by 32 deputies, which was not enough to make a decision.

For the text of the new appeal, the MPs used terminology from Shmyhal's bill No. 8371 on banning the activity in Ukraine of religious organisations with a governing centre in Russia.
