European Union Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson has warned that Europe could face a "huge risk of terrorist attacks" over the Christmas period because of the war between Israel and Palestine, reports rfi.fr.
At a meeting of EU Interior Ministers held in Brussels, Ylva Johansson said, "With the war between Israel and Hamas, and the polarization it causes in our society, with the upcoming holiday season, there is a huge risk of terrorist attacks in the European Union.”
As proof, she recalled the recent terrorist attack in Paris, when an Islamist who swore allegiance to the Islamic State armed group first stabbed a tourist to death and then wounded two other people with a hammer.
According to Johansson, " We saw [it happening] recently in Paris, unfortunately, we have seen it earlier as well."
As earlier reported, police detained a migrant from Syria armed with a knife in a temple in Athens.
