UGCC justifies why they do not celebrate Easter "with Europe"

The UGCC has responded to public complaints about why Christmas is celebrated "in a new way", while Easter is not. Greek Catholic Metropolitan Ihor Vozniak said in a comment to the eparchial website that the UGCC plans to switch to the Gregorian calendar in the next two years and celebrate Easter together with Roman Catholics.

At the same time, he is saddened by the fact that the Uniates will not be able to celebrate this holiday together with the OCU.

"When we switch to celebrating Easter according to the Gregorian calendar, we assume that the OCU will continue celebrating Easter according to the Julian calendar, so there will be a division from this point of view," said Vozniak.

According to him, this division "will be tangible and somewhat strange" in those churches where there are "joint services in one church with the OCU, because according to one calendar, there will be Easter, and others will continue to fast until the appropriate date of celebration".

According to him, the final decision on the Easter date should be made by the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC.

As earlier reported, according to Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw, as soon as a new union is introduced in Ukraine, the country will disappear.
