Letychiv community denied registration because of "non-autocephaly" of UOC

The Khmelnytskyi RMA refused to register the Assumption Community of the UOC of Letychiv because the Ukrainian Orthodox Church "does not have the status of an autonomous Church, which would be recognised by other Churches". The corresponding document signed by the deputy head of the RMA Serhiy Tiurin was published on the website of the Khmelnytskyi Military Administration.

The official wrote that according to the expertise of DESS on 27 January 2023 No. N-8/11, "the adoption of the new edition of the Statute and Resolutions of the Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of 27.05.2022 did not lead to the break of the church-canonical connection of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the Russian Orthodox Church".

Tiurin said that the UOC "also does not have the status of an autonomous Church which would be recognised by other Churches".

On this basis, the deputy head of the Khmelnytsky RMA found it correct to refuse to register the Dormition Community of the UOC in Letychiv. This decision can be challenged in the Khmelnytskyi City District Court within three years.

As reported, in April 2023, Tiurin signed a decision to rename the seized Kazan Church of the UOC in Khmelnytskyi.
