Catholic Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio stated that there is an "evolution in mutual understanding" between Catholics and Masons, as reported by ilmessaggero.it.
On February 16, a conference on "The Catholic Church and Freemasonry" took place in Milan. From the Catholic Church, honorary prefect of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, Cardinal of Milan Archbishop Mario Delpini, and Bishop Francesco Stagliano, President of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Theology, participated.
The conference, referred to by Masons as "historic", was organized by the Milan Diocese of the Catholic Church "with the aim of breaking the ice between two worlds that fought and excommunicated each other."
After the event, Cardinal Coccopalmerio stated that there is an "evolution in mutual understanding" between Catholics and Masons.
"Fifty years ago, there was less knowledge, but everything has shifted, and I hope these meetings will not stop there," said the Cardinal, proposing to "come up with a permanent round table, even at the level of authority, to have the opportunity to better understand each other."
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Masons and the Catholic Church in Italy will hold a joint conference.
