Bishop Victor (Kotsaba) of Baryshevka said that during a scientific conference at the Kharkiv Theological Seminary he learned about the attempt on the life of the late Metropolitan Nikodim (Rusnak), who chaired the Kharkiv See in 1989-2011.
The event is mentioned in one of the books of the late bishop: “When I lived in Kharkiv in Minska Street, an attempt was made on my life. They shot at me. But, thank God, they missed, and I stayed alive.”
Bishop Victor saw another confirmation of this fact in the Church-Historical Museum of the Kharkiv Eparchy – a subframe with the glass pierced by a bullet.
Now that subdeacon Oleg, who rushed to Vladyka to cover him during the shooting, is Metropolitan Onuphry of Kharkiv and Bogodukhiv, reports the vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis on his Telegram channel.
As the Chancellor of the Lviv Eparchy in 1983-1989, Metropolitan Nikodim banned from priesthood Fr Vladimir Yarema, who later headed the autocephalous schism with the title “Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine”.
The attempt on the life of the hierarch of the UOC took place shortly after the transfer from Lviv to the Kharkiv See.
As reported, on April 13, 2021, an All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the memory of Metropolitan Nikodim (Rusnak) was held at the Kharkiv Theological Seminary of the UOC.
