On March 5, 2024, during a meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Humanitarian and Information Policy, MP Volodymyr Viatrovych hastily urged for a decision on the consideration of Draft Law No. 8371 by the Verkhovna Rada. In a rush, he advised DESS officials. The video of the meeting was published on the YouTube channel of the VRU Committee.
According to the DESS representative, it was necessary to determine the procedure, deadlines, and other criteria for conducting expertise of statutes, religious studies research, as mentioned in the specified draft law.
"We have little time. <...> As you do it, so it will be," he hurriedly responded to all questions.
"It is obvious that this is how the boundaries of freedom of conscience in Ukraine and the fate of thousands of Ukrainian religious organizations are to be determined according to Draft Law No. 8371," commented the UOC on the situation in the Committee.
As the UOJ wrote, Bill 8371 does not meet Ukraine's international obligations.
