On May 27, 2021, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrey Yermak met with the bishop of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Metropolitan Emmanuel (Adamakis) of Chalcedon, reports the official website of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
At the meeting with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, together with Metropolitan Emmanuel of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the representative of the OCU Eustratiy Zoria was present.
According to Andrey Yermak, all confessions of Ukraine feel free and independent, and "Vladimir Zelensky is the President who does not use the Church for political purposes."
Andrey Yermak expressed gratitude to Patriarch Bartholomew and the Patriarchate of Constantinople for supporting Ukraine and said that "the whole country is looking forward to" the visit of the Phanar head and his participation in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, and conveyed greetings from the President of Ukraine.
The head of the President's Office assured Metropolitan Emmanuel that "the state will do everything" so that the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Ukraine is held at the highest level.
In turn, the Phanar representative expressed confidence that the expected visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Ukraine in August "will be prepared and carried out in the best way".
He noted the "openness and support" from the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, which was confirmed by his visit to Istanbul and a meeting with the head of the Phanar in October 2020.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Konstantin Bondarenko, in exchange for the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to Ukraine, which is being actively prepared by Vladimir Zelensky, the Phanar may demand to continue the policy begun under ex-President Petro Poroshenko.
