After the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada approved Bill 8371, aimed at effectively banning the UOC, in its first reading, religious organizations, including Protestant groups, proposed amendments, according to LB.ua.
"The Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy of the Verkhovna Rada heard the remarks of Viktor Yelensky, Chairman of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience, regarding the current version of the bill from churches of different denominations, particularly Protestants, and made the corresponding amendments," the article states.
The DESS has supported the updated version of the bill.
As reported by UOJ, a parliamentarian spoke about Ukrainian Protestants advocating for Bill 8371 in the United States.
