Not OCU: Reserve reveals who will fund the restoration of Lavra church

The Church of All Saints, also known as the Gate Church, located in the Upper Lavra, where only the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) is currently permitted to operate, will be restored with funds from the Japanese Trust Fund. This was reported by the National Reserve on its Facebook page on August 21.

The Reserve stated that the church had been included in the list of cultural monuments that would be restored under a UNESCO project and the Japanese Trust Fund.

"Ukraine received a grant for the restoration of cultural monuments damaged by the war. However, the list includes not only objects destroyed by Russian shelling but also buildings that could suffer irreparable damage during wartime," the statement said.

It is noted that the Church of All Saints, which is now under the jurisdiction of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra", was not damaged by destructive bombings but urgently needs restoration.

"This is especially true for the artwork, which could be lost if urgent measures are not taken," the Reserve stated.

The restoration project for the church includes three stages: updating documentation, immediate conservation of the artwork, and carrying out restoration work. Currently, the preparatory phase is underway, during which new data must be collected and processed.

As the UOJ previously reported, the Lavra commented on the Reserve's closure of the "Life-Giving Spring" church and shared how the brethren restored it from ruins.
