The Odesa Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church organized parish events dedicated to the Nativity Fast and the celebration of Christmas. According to the diocesan press service, some communities held parish 'zagovenie' meals (non-fasting foods taken on the eve of any fast – Trans.), which may become a new tradition.
This initiative was blessed by Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail.
“These are festive yet cozy and family-oriented gatherings that brought together clergy from various churches and parishioners of all ages around a shared table for open discussions, exchange of ideas, and conversations about celebrating the upcoming holidays and observing the fast in a meaningful way,” the statement said.
The diocese emphasized that preparation for such events played a significant role, uniting the most active clergy and parishioners.
“The result of this preparation includes vibrant charity fairs, warm meals illuminated by the light of festive anticipation, and quizzes for the youngest believers,” the diocesan press service wrote. “It seems we are witnessing the birth of a new parish tradition in the Odesa Eparchy – another community effort for our spiritual growth and unity.”
As the Odesa Eparchy previously reported, a Sunday school in Odesa, renovated after a fire, was recently consecrated by the UOC.
