On October 25, 2021, the head of the Phanar, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, held official meetings in Washington with American President Joe Biden and the head of the U.S. Department of State Antony Blinken.
The main hierarch of the Phanar in America, Archbishop Elpidophoros, wrote on his Facebook page that he was "grateful to Secretary of State Blinken", and to Biden – "deeply grateful" for the meeting.
At a meeting with Biden, Patriarch Bartholomew spoke of the need for "urgent action by political leaders in response to the climate crisis" and "the spread of COVID vaccines among developing countries". As usual, the head of the Phanar also recalled the opening of a seminary on Halki Island.
Thanks were also expressed to Secretary of State Blinken for a meeting at the State Department, where the Ecumenical Patriarch expressed concern about the plight of Christians in the Middle East, highlighted the urgent need for political action in response to the climate crisis, and emphasized the role of interfaith dialogue.
As reported, Catholic Biden claims he is deeply committed to legalized abortion.
