On October 25, 2021, during a meeting in Washington with American President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople complained about the opposition of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Phanar's policy in Ukraine, reports OrthodoxTimes.
In particular, discussing the "autocephaly" of the OCU, the head of the Phanar said that the Russian Orthodox Church opposed the "self-determination of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine", and by this "contradicts the church law and undermines the unity of Orthodoxy". In turn, representatives of the American side expressed dissatisfaction with the "non-constructive role of Russia".
