The year 2025 has been declared the Year of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in the Ivano-Frankivsk community. This decision was supported by 37 deputies during the 48th session of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, according to the Firtka publication.
The city’s mayor, Ruslan Martsynkiv, noted that the initiative to declare 2025 the Year of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi came from the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, and the local archdiocese.
"Considering that 150 years ago the Stanislaviv Archdiocese was established, and that our greatest bishop was Andriy Sheptytskyi, it was decided to proclaim 2025 as the Year of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi in our community," Martsynkiv stated.
Additionally, the Archcathedral and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Ivano-Frankivsk has been declared a pilgrimage site. From December 29, 2024, to December 28, 2025, it will be possible to receive jubilee indulgences at the cathedral.
As previously reported by UOJ, the regional council has also declared 2025 the Year of Andriy Sheptytskyi in Ternopil Oblast.
