CYPRUS—Archbishop George, Primate of the Church of Cyprus, announced in an interview with RIKnews that following the deposition of Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos, the Synod will consider the case of Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou at its upcoming session on June 23, 2025.

In his statement to the outlet, the Archbishop referred to "heresy within the Church, which, fortunately, has been exposed through recent events and the defection of clergy."

Speaking about Metropolitan Tychikos, Archbishop George emphasized that he expects from him a "confession of faith," which can clearly be interpreted as a renunciation of the views that led to his removal from the Paphos see.

The head of the Cypriot Church stressed that if Metropolitan Tychikos does not submit such a "confession," then "the matter will be definitively closed on June 23, the day of the next Holy Synod session."

It is worth recalling that Metropolitan Neophytos has previously stated that His Beatitude Onuphry is the canonical primate in Ukraine, while Epiphanius is not.

UOJ-America previously reported that a theologian had described the case of Metropolitan Tychikos as an example of a "world turned upside down."
