Over 100 Souls Received Into the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa

LUSAKA — On June 8, 2025, the Feast of Pentecost, the Patriarchal Exarchate in Africa for the Russian Orthodox Church welcomed over 130 new faithful in Zambia and Cameroon.

In Mongu, Zambia, Fr. Sylvester Mumbi celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the parish of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Before the service, he baptized 42 members of the Lozi people who had embraced Orthodoxy. They received Holy Communion for the first time during the Liturgy. This followed an earlier baptism of 17 individuals from the Silozi tribe on May 31 and June 1.

On the same day in Bertoua, Cameroon, Priest Victor Mfeg received over 70 people into the Orthodox Church at the parish of All Saints. After baptizing five individuals, he performed the rite of reception for another 68. A former leader of a non-canonical community, Fr. Victor was ordained in Moscow earlier this year and spent six months catechizing the faithful.

Many of the new Cameroonian Orthodox had first encountered the Church through social media posts by Fr. Victor, sparking their interest and eventual conversion.
